When five teenagers get lost and find themselves in the midst of a gold mine, they discover something extra special: five colored coins in the middle of the rocks. When they start experiencing out of the ordinary events they come back together and figure out that something special might have happened to them.

Movie Review: SABAN’S POWER RANGERS

Saban’s Power Rangers is the 2017 reboot/update of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise. This film takes us all the way back to the beginning and tells the origin story of the Power Rangers and pits them up against classic villain Rita Repulsa as she attempts to end all life on Earth and become a galatic threat. The film is direct by Project Almanac director Dean Israelite and stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, Becky G., Bill Hader, Elizabeth Banks, and Bryan Cranston.

Movie Review: PATRIOTS DAY

Patriots Day is the second film in 2016 by director Peter Berg and, as with his other 2016 feature, this film stars Mark Wahlberg. In addition to Wahlberg this film has a cavalcade of great performers including John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, Kevin Bacon, Alex Wolff, Themo Melikidze, Jake Picking, Michael Beach, Rachel Brosnahan, Christopher O’Shea, Mellissa Benoist, Michelle Monaghan, and Jimmy O. Yang. This film depicts the events of the Boston Marathon Bombing from April, 2013 including events just before the bombing, during the bombing, and the manhunt to catch the two bombers after the bombing.

Movie Review: LA LA LAND

A quick Google search will find hundreds upon hundreds of positive La La Land reviews. This review will be written from a bit more personal of a perspective. The last thing I want to do is spoil a single moment of this movie for you as it slowly cycles through its limited release. So, instead of just discussing the technical achievements and directorial triumphs of La La Land, since we’re all part of one big movie-loving family, I’d like to take you through the evening where I discovered (dare I say it) one of my favorite movies of all time.

Movie Review: BOO! A MADEA HALLOWEEN

Boo! A Madea Halloween is the twelfth appearance of the character Madea and is directed by, written by, produced by, and stars Tyler Perry. In this latest entry the character Brian (Perry) enlists the help of Madea (Perry) to watch over his teenage daughter (Diamond White) to make sure she didn’t leave the home to go to a Halloween frat party in the area. I certainly am not the biggest fan of Madea as a character and have only seen a smattering of her films, however I have to confess I got some enjoyment out of this film even if it has some serious flaws.

Movie Review: HACKSAW RIDGE

Hacksaw Ridge is Mel Gibson’s latest directorial effort telling the true story of Medal of Honor recipient Desmond T. Doss (portrayed by Andrew Garfield in this film). Doss was a combat medic in the U.S. Army during the World War II incursions into Japan and, as a conscientious objector on religious grounds, he refused to carry a gun or to commit any violence on another. During a battle aimed at taking Hacksaw Ridge from the Japanese, Doss proved his heroism by saving many American lives. This film stars Andrew Garfield, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, and Luke Bracey. It's an incredibly powerful film which affected me on a deeply emotional level in addition to it impressing me technically.

Trailer Review: POWER RANGERS (2017)

This weekend, shortly before a panel at New York Comic Con, Lionsgate dropped the first teaser trailer for their brand new rendition of Power Rangers due for release in March of 2017. This was a very long awaited trailer as there still seems to be a bubbling of love for this property and Lionsgate has been teasing fans with still images for months.

EDITORIAL: Divergent, Lionsgate, and the Future of YA Adaptations

I remember circa 2013 when The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones came out and subsequently became a massive financial bomb. I remember the prevailing sentiment at the time being that the Young Adult novel film adaptation was either dead or dying, with the last glimmers of hope being the Hunger Games, which at the time was about to release its second film, and Divergent, which would come out a year later and was, by all accounts, looking to be another major hit franchise. My, how times change.
