Movie Review: SABAN’S POWER RANGERS

Saban’s Power Rangers is the 2017 reboot/update of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise. This film takes us all the way back to the beginning and tells the origin story of the Power Rangers and pits them up against classic villain Rita Repulsa as she attempts to end all life on Earth and become a galatic threat. The film is direct by Project Almanac director Dean Israelite and stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, Becky G., Bill Hader, Elizabeth Banks, and Bryan Cranston.

Movie Review: MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is the first American spinoff movie based on the 90s television show of the same name. Imported from Japan, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the show was an adaptation using stock footage from the Japanese show Super Sentai alongside new American footage. This movie was the first time that no stock footage was used from Super Sentai and was an all-American production. It tells the story of six teenagers with superpowers who must combat an ancient foe named Ivan Ooze as he attempts to kill their mentor and take over the world. This film was directed by Bryan Spicer and stars Jason David Frank, Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Amy Jo Johnson, David Yost, and Paul Freeman.

EDITORIAL: My Thoughts on the Upcoming Power Rangers Movie

Cards on the table here: I am, or at least was when I was younger, a BIG fan of Power Rangers. Back in the day, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was one of my favorite shows, and I followed it up until the SPD/Mystic Force series around 2005-06. I haven't kept up with the shw since then, but I have tons of unbridled nostalgia for a lot of the old Power Rangers series, especially Mighty Morphin, so I was excited as hell when I found out they were making a new movie.
