May is here, and you know what that means? The summer movie season has officially started, and what better way to celebrate than with a friendly competition! So I present to you all the Merc With A Movie Blog Summer Film Challenge!

SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE 2017 - Final Results

Alright, my fellow Mercs, the Summer film season has officially come to a close, and with it come the end of the SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE!!  It's been a crazy ride, full of ups and downs, but we finally have the results.  Check out the Top 10 Domestic Box Office earners and the point standings below along with some words from the challengers.

SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE 2017 - Week 14 Update

Welcome to week 14 of Merc With A Movie Blog's SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE!!  This week saw the release of two new films -- The Dark Tower and Kidnap. During this disappointingly lean week for theaters, we saw The Dark Tower take the top spot with just under $20 million, while the other newcomer, Kidnap, only made it to the #5 spot with just over $10 million.

SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE 2017 - Week 13 Update

Welcome to Week 13 of Merc With A Movie Blog's SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE!!!  This week we saw the release of two new films, The Emoji Movie and Atomic Blonde.  For an animated film, The Emoji Movie failed to make a mark, bringing in less than $25 million, and only hitting second place.  Atomic Blonde, while making less than The Emoji Movie, made a decent amount hitting over $18 million, which is pretty solid for a film that only cost $30 million to make.

SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE 2017 - Week 12 Update

Week 12 of our SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE is here and this week we saw the release of three films, Dunkirk, Girls Trip, and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.  We also so something that none of us here thought would happen back in April when we made our initial picks -- Wonder Woman has overtaken Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as the top film at the Summer domestic box office.

Welcome to week 9 of Merc With A Movie Blog's SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE!!!  This week saw the release of three new films:  this third installment of the highly popular Despicable Me franchise, the new Will Ferrell/Amy Poehler comedy The House, and one of my favorite films of the year, Edgar Wright's latest film, Baby Driver.

We are two months in to Merc With A Movie Blog's SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE and things are really starting to heat up!  This week saw the release of the latest installment in one of the most critically panned franchises, which also happens to be one of the most lucrative franchises, Transformers: The Last Knight.

Welcome to Week 7 of Merc With A Movie Blog's SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE!!!  A lot has happened this week.  We got four new major releases with the Mandy Moore shark movie 47 Meters Down, the Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me, Pixar's latest film Cars 3, and the Scarlett Johansson comedy Rough Night.  We also go a big shift in points this week.

Here it is folks!  Week 6 of Merc With A Movie Blog's Summer Film Challenge is upon us and this week saw the release of the A24 produced horror film It Comes At Night, and the first installment of Universal's new "Dark Universe", The Mummy, and with these releases comes a bit of a shift in the points, bringing the gap much, much closer.

Welcome back to this week's update for Merc With A Movie Blog's SUMMER FILM CHALLENGE 2017!  We are now five weeks in, and it's really starting to heat up.  We saw the release of two new films this week, the animated film Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and more importantly, the brand new DCEU film, Wonder Woman, which crushed expectations at the box office.

It's been a month since our Summer Film Challenge began, and it's finally starting to ramp up.  This week we saw the release of two new films, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Baywatch, both of which landed in the Top 3 for their opening weekend.
