Movie Review: ARRIVAL

Professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is one of the most brilliant linguists in the world. When aliens start appearing on the Earth in twelve random places she is tasked by the US Government to enter start communicating with them and eventually interpret their language.

Arrival is one of the best motion pictures of recent times and continues to strike on the trend of very good and scientifically inspired sci-fi films we have had in recent times with GravityInterstellar, and The Martian. This films adds to that very good pantheon of modern Sci-Fi and it just might be one of the best we've had yet.

Movie Review: NOCTURNAL ANIMALS (Review #2)

Nocturnal Animals is the second, and latest, feature by acclaimed couturier turned director Tom Ford. The film tells the story of a woman named Susan Morrow (Amy Adams) as she gets a mysterious manuscript of a novel written by her ex-husband. The narrative of the story switches between Susan reading the novel and the events of the novel which intertwine in interesting ways to create a fulfilling narrative overall. The film stars Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Isla Fisher, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Karl Glusman, and Armie Hammer.

Art gallery owner Susan Morrow (Amy Adams) is having a really tough time with life, she feels unhappy, doesn't think work is satisfying her and is suspicious of her husband. When her ex-husband (Jake Gyllenhall) sends her a draft of his novel, all of the hardships of Susan's life seem to blend in with the violent novel and real life and fiction start to mysteriously intricate into one another.

Movie Review: ARRIVAL

Welcome back to this mini-series of reviews of the feature films* of revered filmmaker Denis Villeneuve with his latest film Arrival. Arrival is a science-fiction film that follows the story of a linguist who is recruited by the military following the arrival of alien spacecraft around the world to try and learn to communicate with them and find out why they are here. It is a deeply cerebral science-fiction story and not action packed as one might expect. The film is obviously directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker.

London Film Festival: ARRIVAL

As the London Film Festival continues, I have gotten the chance to see several great films, and this one is no different.  Arrival is a true futuristic sci-fi classic with a great twist, and a potentially career defining role for Amy Adams.
