90th Academy Awards Nominations

Nominations for the 90th Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning (Tuesday, Jan. 23rd) with lots of great films scoring nominations.  

This year's Oscar ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will honor the best films of 2017 and will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 4, 2018. During the ceremony, The Academy will present awards in 24 categories (listed below). The ceremony, televised in the United States by ABC, will once again be hosted by television host Jimmy Kimmel and will air at 8 p.m. ET, with the red carpet event starting at 6:30 p.m. ET, so make sure to join us for this star-studded event, and check us out on Twitter where we will be live tweeting the whole night.

EDITORIAL: Expectations and How We Let Them Impact Our Viewing Experiences

It is nearly impossible to go into a film with no expectations. With the immense marketing infrastructure, and huge movie review space, having no information about a film prior to sitting down is nearly impossible for anyone of any ilk. That said, many people try (and effectively do) set those expectations aside and enjoy (or not enjoy) the movie on its merits. Yet, upon meeting them, they appear more than welcoming until strange occurrences in the house and things that happen to him start freaking him out, ultimately leading to the discovery of a terrible mystery.

Movie Review: GET OUT

Get Out is the directorial debut of acclaimed comedian Jordan Peele. This is a horror/thriller about a mixed race couple going to meet the girl’s white family out in the country where mysterious disturbing things seem to be afoot. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Macus Henderson, Betty Gabriel, and LilRel Howery. I thought this was a solid first outing and a generally decent thriller with some interesting concepts at play.
