Trailer Review: DOCTOR STRANGE (Trailer #2)

A new trailer for Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch's debut into the MCU, has released, and from the look of things the Marvel train is going to keep on rolling just fine for a while longer.  Check out the trailer below:

Doctor Strange tells the story of a surgeon with the coolest name ever who becomes, or at least has started on the journey to becoming, the Sorcerer Supreme. It seems strange (no pun intended) that we're still getting origin-story movies with MCU Phase Three underway, but given the alternative is new characters just being introduced out of the blue, I get the rationale. Since this is an origin story, the trailer follows the standard Marvel origin movie format. We get some good looks at the latest hero made flesh, standing still, maybe walking a bit, and just generally looking like everything you're not. There's a glimpse of the beginning of his journey to hero-hood (a car crash, in this case), and plenty of eye candy as we're shown the sizzle reel of the wondrous new world and life our newest hero will spend the film learning to inhabit.

All we can really take away here is that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Doctor Strange in a Marvel movie, and the movie is special effects-heavy. If you never got a taste for Marvel movies, you'll likely skip this one. If you did, you'll likely see it. I will likely see it. While I'm not on board with the political tomfoolery that's been swirling around Marvel characters lately, I can't deny that the Marvel movies have been a lot of fun for the most part. Hopefully future trailers will contain more plot details, but this one is enough to at least put the film on my radar.

Doctor Strange premiers on November 4.
