Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results. The TOP 3 films for the weekend of January 1-3 were Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Daddy's Home, and The Hateful Eight.
Let's take a look at this week's box office results:
WHAT STANDS OUT?
The biggest stand-out of the week is, of course, the mega-juggernaut, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which took the #2 spot on the all-time domestic box office, edging out Titanic. It also managed to crack the $1.5 billion mark, pushing it closer to the top spot on the worldwide box office.
There were a couple other things that stood out to me this weekend, one of which was The Hateful Eight soaring to the Top 3 in its first week of full release. The other was Sisters and Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Road Chip dropping only 10% each from last week, showing that people are definitely in the mood to watch movies this season.
THE TOP 3:
For the third week in a row, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has dominated the box office, bringing in another $90.2 million and dropping only 39.5% for an impressive domestic total of $742.2 million and a worldwide total of $1.51 billion. This puts it in the #6 spot at the worldwide box office, and will no doubt hit the #3 spot by next weekend.
2. DADDY'S HOME
Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell's latest team-up, Daddy's Home, managed to hold on to the second spot again this weekend, right behind the juggernaut of Star Wars, bringing in another $29.2 million. That puts its domestic total up to $93.9 million and its worldwide total up to $116.4 million.
3. THE HATEFUL EIGHT
In its first week in wide release, Quentin Tarantino's latest film, The Hateful Eight, managed to make its way into the Top 3, bringing in $15.7 million for a domestic total of $29 million on a mere $44 million production budget. And as word spreads about the quality of this film, I have no doubt that this film will continue to make money at the box office.

#1 - Star Wars: The Force Awakens - $90,241,673
#2 - Daddy's Home - $29,205,583
