What's On Netflix?: PARALLELS

For this week's What's On Netflix?, I decided to try something I hadn't heard of before, and that's when I stumbled upon this interesting little film...PARALLELS.

Netflix describes this film as such:  This sci-fi adventure follows a small band of people journeying across multiple parallel earths to help a scattered family reunite.  This description hooked me instantly, sounding very similar to one of my favorite sci-fi shows, Sliders.

Parallels is director, Christopher Leone's first feature film, technically, even though it was originally conceived as a television pilot.  This is most likely why the majority of the actors in this film are television stars, and don't have a lot of film experience, giving the whole project a slightly fan-made feel.  It features such talent as Mark Hapka (Days of Our Lives), Jessica Rothe (Next Time on Lonny), Eric Jungmann (Not Another Teen Movie), Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat), and Michael Monks (The Practice)

There's a lot of potential in this film, setting up a great story for future possible sequels.  It's dark and gritty take on what Sliders did back in the 90's sets Parallels up to be a great film series, preferably consisting of a three-film arc.  The problem is that it sets up so much without answering enough questions.  So we are left wondering so much at the end of the film, and if a sequel never gets made, then those questions will never be answered.

Parallels is a fun ride for fans of Sliders and the genre, but be aware that you will be left hanging a bit at the end, so as long as you relative that, you should enjoy this film.  So head over to Netflix and check it out for yourself.

The Merc's Score: 7/10
