Pandemic films have been around for years, bringing us hit or miss tellings of a world where some sort of viral outbreak ravages the population. Some take this genre and spin it in the horror direction, as seen in the hundreds, if not thousands, of zombie movies out there, while others take a more realistic approach, like Contagion or the film I’ll be talking about today… ONLY.

Movie Review: THE HALF OF IT (2020)
Bookish introvert Ellie Chu is perfectly content with her life: watching old movies with her widowed father and ghostwriting papers for her high school classmates to help pay the bills. But her side gig turns personal when lovelorn jock Paul Munsky (Daniel Diemer) hires her to craft love notes to Aster Flores (Alexxis Lemire) — a smart, popular girl out of both of their leagues… and Ellie’s own secret crush. Just as the duo’s plan begins to work, a new wrinkle emerges: Ellie and Paul have fallen into a deep friendship neither could have anticipated, giving rise to a surprising love triangle. THE HALF OF IT is a heartfelt comedy-of-errors about searching for perfect love — and finding yourself in the process.

What's on Netflix?: DEAD TO ME - Season 1
Review by: Lisa Zimmerman
Netflix is known for its binge-worthy shows, new and old, such as Grey's Anatomy and Stranger Things. Dead to Me is another such series. I first tuned into Dead to Me because of Christina Applegate, but I kept watching because of the interesting plot and the onscreen chemistry of the actors involved.

Review: BLACK MIRROR: BANDERSNATCH (2018)
Netflix, now you’ve gone and done it.
The latest outing for the Netflix original, Black Mirror, has come in the form of an interactive movie. “What does that mean?”, you may ask. Well, the entire film is set up like a “choose your own adventure” story, as the plot centers around a game programmer in the mid-80’s who is making a new game based on one of those books. This is such a unique and ambitious project. Allowing the watcher the opportunity to dictate their viewing experience is something we’ve only dreamed of, but somehow Netflix and the people from Black Mirror were able to pull it off.

Movie Review: SET IT UP (2018)
Quality romantic comedies are few and far between these days. As the 90’s ended, so did the tidal wave of rom-coms (both good and bad) that saturated the market. Occasionally we still get a decent one here and there, but they’ve become almost like an endangered species. Luckily we have places like Netflix who aren’t afraid to throw a few out onto the table for the masses. Earlier this year I watched one called When We First Met starring Adam Devine, and I found it to be enjoyable. Was it a masterpiece? No, but very few rom-coms are, but it was a fun watch, and that’s exactly how I felt about Set It Up. This was an enjoyable film to watch with some good performances and an interesting, though not unique, premise.

TV Review: MINDHUNTER - Season 1
Mindhunter is the new television series on Netflix from the minds of David Fincher and creator Joe Penhall. Based on the books of real life FBI agents John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker, the series follows fictionalized versions of these men in agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) in the late 1970s on their journey of creating the Elite Serail Crime unit born from criminal sciences regarding serial killers. The idea that young Ford brings into Tench's world is that by conducting various interviews with multiple murderers, trying to understand their psychology might be the key into these insane men's (as the show remarks multiple times: it is generally men that commit these acts) mind and thus develop a method to better understand, investigate and prevent these killings.
