What's on Netflix?: DEAD TO ME - Season 1

Review by: Lisa Zimmerman

Netflix is known for its binge-worthy shows, new and old, such as Grey's Anatomy and Stranger Things. Dead to Me is another such series. I first tuned into Dead to Me because of Christina Applegate, but I kept watching because of the interesting plot and the onscreen chemistry of the actors involved.

YouTube Review: COBRA KAI - Season 1

Anyone who came of age during the 80's remembers The Karate Kid. A tale about a scrappy kid named Daniel LaRusso who learns to stand up for himself.  Now, fast forward 34 years and a new rivalry begins. I had the pleasure of watching the first season of the YouTube Red series Cobra Kai, and I loved it. I was obsessed with this movie as a kid and to see it back in any form was fantastic.

TV Review: MINDHUNTER - Season 1

Mindhunter is the new television series on Netflix from the minds of David Fincher and creator Joe Penhall. Based on the books of real life FBI agents John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker, the series follows fictionalized versions of these men in agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) in the late 1970s on their journey of creating the Elite Serail Crime unit born from criminal sciences regarding serial killers. The idea that young Ford brings into Tench's world is that by conducting various interviews with multiple murderers, trying to understand their psychology might be the key into these insane men's (as the show remarks multiple times: it is generally men that commit these acts) mind and thus develop a method to better understand, investigate and prevent these killings.

FREAKS AND GEEKS Review - A Love Letter To Apatow, Feig, Rogen, Segel, Cardellini, Franco & Co.

As a super fan of Rogen, Goldberg, Apatow and that whole group of comedy that established itself in the film world with The 40 Year Old Virgin and has kept making top tier comedies since then, I was really eager to check out this show that started it all. Now, I cannot possibly put in words how much these people mean to me and how much I love their work so I will not even try. Granted not all of their material turns out great, but even when they fail they come out with something really worth the time anyways and when they succeed we get pieces of eternal rewatchability and undefinable joy. I don't know if it was possible, but after watching this show my love for them has increased even more, almost to Nolan-Hitchock-Linklater levels.

TV Review: BETTER CALL SAUL - Season 2

better-call-saul-season-2-poster

Back in its second season Better Call Saul continues to prove that Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, and their team of writers and directors aren't just some of the greatest people in television history, nor are they simply great filmmakers, we're talking all time storytellers here and by that I do mean it with all my heart, up to the very point that indeed they might just be entering the conversation on the side of the greats like Homerus, Shaekspeare and Dickens.
