Why Haven't I Seen That?: ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST

Welcome to a new installment of WHY HAVEN'T I SEEN THAT?, where we talk about a must-see or iconic movie that we have never seen...until now. This week we take a look at the Jack Nicholson classic...ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST.  Enjoy.

This film is one that has been recommended to me so many times that I've lost count. I finally was able to watch it and In the end, I thought it was a pretty good movie. I wouldn't say it was the greatest movie I've seen, however generally speaking I think Jack Nicholson was outstanding. The way he's able to give you an insight into his mind with how he performs is amazing. Each movement andeach piece of dialog is authentic and mesmerizing.

I also think Brad Dourif who played Billy, is really the actor who suprised me in this film. His character is one of the emotional center pieces of the film and, without his performance, wouldn't work at all. He isn't the only great performance in this film, though, as I think all the roles are performed really well. This really is an achievement considering how many great performances there actually were.

The direction of the entire film is wonderful, the style of the film as a whole is extremely unique yet grounded and acessible. I think the cinematography really helps make the story so much more interesting. Some other things that stood out to me were the editing and score. Both not trying to draw focus, but instead complimenting the film and making it stronger as a whole.

Even with all that, the one thing that annoyed me about the film was Ms. Ratched. I felt like she was very unbelievable as a character and that really prevented me from becoming emotionally attached as much as I would have otherwise.

I still think the film as a whole is great, though it's not going to land on my best of all time. I believe Nicholson and some of the other main cast really add weight to the film as a whole making it well worth a watch.

Khizer's Score: 7.5/10
