Music is something that I don't normally post about on my site, but as Chester Bennington and Linkin Park have been a major part of my life for many years, shaping who I am today, I decided to write my thoughts down and get them out in the open.

Movie Review: WHIPLASH (A Retrospective)

Whiplash is a 2014 Best Picture nominee with a performance by the Best Supporting Actor winner of 2014, J.K. Simmons. The film is directed by Damien Chazelle and, in light of the upcoming release of his wildly critically exalted film La La Land, I will be taking a look back at this other directorial effort. The film stars Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons, and Mellissa Benoist. It follows the story of a young drummer who gets an opportunity and endures a punishing music instructor dead set on making him one of the greats.

Movie Review: SING STREET

Dublin, 1985. When his family decides to cut expenses because of the recession, Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), a teenager who loves music, is transferred to a public Christian school where he feels totally out of place. One day he sees a girl, Raphina (Lucy Boynton), waiting outside of the school and goes to talk to her. Deeply moved, he decides to put a band together so she can star in their music videos and also to impress her. This brings him and her and his new friends in the band into a coming-of-age tale that is as powerful as it is romantic.

It's been almost three years since Disney's animated hit, Frozen, killed it at the box office, bringing in over $1.2 billion dollars, and becoming the highest grossing animated film of all time.  Part of this was because of the interesting story, part of it was because of the fun characters, but a lot of it was due to this amazing music throughout the film.
