Movie Review: KING KONG (2005)

King Kong (2005) is directed by acclaimed Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson. After the wild success he had adventuring in Middle Earth, Jackson made this passion-project remake of the 1933 film King Kong. It follows essentially the same story, a filmmaker and his crew recruit a beautiful woman and travel to a mysterious island where they encounter a bunch of frightening creatures including one giant ape that they bring back to New York where havoc ensues. The film stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrein Brody, and frequent Jackson-collaborator Andy Serkis.

Movie Review: KING KONG (1933)

King Kong (1933) is the world famous introduction of the large ape and beauty and the beast narrative that has become a perpetual classic. The film has been remade multiple times and Kong himself has appeared in many other films. This groundbreaking work which was revolutionary for the stop motion creature effects was directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack. Everyone knows the story by now, but in case you don’t it is about a filmmaker and his team who travel to an exotic location to shoot a movie where they encounter a giant ape named Kong and are attacked by him and dinosaurs on this exotic island. They end up capturing Kong and returning him to New York where he causes havoc. The film stars Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, and Bruce Cabot.

Movie Review: KONG: SKULL ISLAND

Kong: Skull Island is the reboot film for the King Kong character set in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. The film is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and is set in the 1970s at the end of the Vietnam War as a group of scientists and an organization called MONARCH are given a military escort to travel to and study a previously undiscovered island in the South Pacific. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, John Goodman, Corey Hawkins, Toby Kebbell, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, and Tian Jing.

Movie Review: GODZILLA (2014)

Godzilla (2014) is the latest film featuring the King of Monsters (or the One-Kaiju-To-Rule-Them-All if you will) and kicks off the Legendary Studios MonsterVerse. The film was directed by Gareth Edwards (who went on to direct Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and tells the story of a paranoid scientist and his son who end up discovering the presence of monsters on Earth. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, and David Strathairn.
