Box Office Breakdown - 6/19-6/21

Welcome to BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of June 19-21 were Jurassic WorldSpy, and Inside Out.

Let's take a look at how the Top 3 did this weekend...

1. JURASSIC WORLD

With another impressive week, Jurassic World rocked the box office by bring in another $106.6 million domestically, taking the #1 spot for second weekend grosses, beating out Avengers ($103 million).  And worldwide, Jurassic World has already come extremely close to breaking the billion dollar mark with $987.2 million, and will cross that line by the end of today, making it the faster film ever to reach $1 billion.

Check out my review of the film HERE.

2. INSIDE OUT

The newest project by Disney's dominant animation studio, Pixar, hit theaters this weekend.  Inside Out performed very well, bringing in $90.4 million, making it Pixar's second largest opening weekend, behind Toy Story 3 ($110.3 million) in 2010.  However, it did take the crown for highest opening weekend ever for an original property, passing Avatar, which made $77 million in 2009.

With the foreign markets added in, that brings the worldwide total for Inside Out to $131.4 million.  And with such good critical reception, we very well may see this film cross the billion dollar mark.

3. SPY

In its third week at the box office, the Paul Feig-directed action-comedy, Spy, managed to pull in another $11.2 million, only dropping 28.1% from last weekend.  This brings its domestic total to $75.1 million, and its worldwide total to $131.6 million on a $65 million budget.

Here's a quick rundown of the top 10 films this weekend:

#1 - Jurassic World - $106,588,440

Jurassic World - Review

One of the earliest and best movie-going memories I have is going to the local discount theater and watching the original Jurassic Park three times in a row, because I was a dork and had nothing better to do at age 9.  I absolutely loved Jurassic Park then, and continue to love it today, and Jurassic World has strengthened that love.
