WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 'Kung Fu Panda 3' Roundhouse Kicks Its Way ToTheTop; 'Fifty Shades of Black' Fails To Arouse

Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of January 29-31 were Kung Fu Panda 3Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and The Revenant.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:

WHAT STANDS OUT?

Of the three new wide release films this week, only one of them (Kung Fu Panda 3) managed to make it into the Top 3.  The Finest Hours did make it to the #4 spot, however, Fifty Shades of Black just managed to make the Top 10, taking the bottom slot with less than $6 million.

THE TOP 3:

1. KUNG FU PANDA 3

Five years after the last sequel, Kung Fu Panda 3 crushed the box office, taking the top spot with an impressive $41.3 million opener.  Combined with the foreign grosses, it has already brought in $117 million worldwide on a budget of $145 million.  This opening is just slightly lower than the opening for Kung Fu Panda 2, and with it opening in January, it has a great chance to out do both other films in the series.

2. THE REVENANT

The new Leonardo DiCaprio film, The Revenant, was bumped back down to the #2 spot with $12.8 million in its fourth week in wide release.  This film has held strong since its release, never dropping below #2.  The film has managed to bring in $138.6 million domestically and $281.2 million worldwide on a production budget of $135 million.

3. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In its seventh week in theaters, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has dipped back down to #3, bringing in $11.1 million.  This brings its domestic total up to $895.8 million and its worldwide total up to $1.98 billion.  It's definitely struggling to reach that $1 billion domestic mark, however, it will most likely become the third film to ever cross $2 billion worldwide by the end of this coming weekend.

TOP 10 RUNDOWN:

#1 - Kung Fu Panda 3 - $41,282,042

#2 - The Revenant - $12,779,530
