That's right, funny-woman Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, Zack & Miri Make A Porno) has been cast as Rita Repulsa, the titular villain for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot film being made by Lionsgate.
The film will be directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and is being produced by Saban Films' Haim Saban and Brian Casentini as well as Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Allison Shearmur will executive produce. The script has been written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (The Last Witch Hunter, the upcoming Gods of Egypt).
The cast so far consists of a plethora of newcomers, including RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger, Becky G as Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor/Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger, and Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger. Banks will play classic Power Ranger character Rita Repulsa, an alien witch who, after being trapped for 10,000 years, decides she's going to conquer the planet.
Power Rangers is scheduled to hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
