Before doing this review, it had been years since I watched this film. It had been so long, that I forgot just how funny it was. Chevy Chase is a comedic genius, from the things he says, to the way he says them, and even his facial expressions. Rewatching this has made me want to go out and pick up the original Vacation movie and give it another watch.
Christmas Vacation follows the Griswold family and their bumbling patriarch, Clark, as they prepare for a huge family Christmas. But of course, things don't go the way Clark intended putting him at his last wits as his holiday plans go awry including non-functioning Christmas lights, uninvited guests, and a disastrous mishap with a squirrel.
I laughed throughout the whole movie, remembering certain jokes that happened, and being surprised by others I had forgotten. One thing I found interesting was that the actor who played Rusty Griswold in this film (the character has been portrayed by A different actor in every film) was Johnny Galecki, better known to many as Leonard from the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
What Makes It Christmasy?
Well, like several of the films I've reviewed for Christmas, it's quite obvious why this one is a Christmas movie. Besides the fact that the word "Christmas" is in the title, the film follows Clark Griswold and his family as they prepare for a huge family Christmas gathering. The film is set during the days leading up to the holiday.
This was a great movie and I definitely won't go so long in between viewings next time. If you haven't seen it, check it out and have yourself a good laugh.
The Merc's Score: 8/10
