Welcome to BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN, where we discuss this weekends box office results. The TOP 3 films for the weekend of July 17-19 were Ant-Man, Minions, and Trainwreck.
1. ANT-MAN
Marvel Studio's newest film, Ant-Man, opened up just under its projected $60-$65 million opening, bringing in $57.2 million domestically and $113.6 worldwide. With such positive buzz coming out of this film, I expect it to have strong legs past its first weekend, hopefully dropping less than 35% from week one to two.
2. MINIONS
In Minions' second week, it took a massive drop, going down 57.4% from its huge $115 million opening. It managed to bring in another $49.2 million, bringing its domestic total up to $215.8 million and its worldwide total up to $624.9 million, inching ever closer to the $1 billion mark.
Also opening this weekend is the new Judd Apatow comedy, Trainwreck. Performing much better than anticipated, it brought in $30.1 million domestically on a $35 million budget. This marks Judd Apatow's second best opening weekend ever, slightly behind 2007's Knocked Up, which made $30.9 million during its opening.
Here's a quick rundown of the top 10 films this weekend:
#1 - Ant-Man - $57,225,526
#2 - Minions - $49,274,730
#3 - Trainwreck - $30,097,040
