Retro Review: TO CATCH A THIEF (1955)

Hello film lovers!!! I hope all of you are getting ready for a fun-filled summer. This past week, I've been contemplating the question, What makes an iconic film? There are several correct answers to this question. However, I think that the chemistry between the two lead actors is vital to the success of any film. Welcome to another installment of RETRO REVIEW where we take a trip back in time to look at films made before the year 2000.  Today we review the 1997 sci-fi thriller, GATTACA.  Enjoy!

While trying to decide what film to watch for this week's Retro Review, I wanted to watch something I had seen, but not in a while.  That's when I came across my DVD copy of Gattaca.  This is a film I haven't seen in several years, and I figured with this year being the 20th anniversary of the film, what better time than now. And I was right.  I had forgotten just how much I loved this film.  And unlike most older films, this one still holds up and may even be more relevant today than it was twenty years ago.

Zany, and off the wall in all the best way's, The Coen Brothers sophomore film, Raising Arizona, established their niche, brilliant comedic style, and gave us some of the best one liners in comedy, such as "I'll be taking these Huggies and whatever cash you got", and side-splitting scenes such as John Goodman and William Forsythe's freak out in the car! And don't forget the outstanding chase scene, dubbed the 'Huggies Chase'.

Retro Review: REAR WINDOW (1954)

Welcome to another installment of RETRO REVIEW where we take a look at films made before the year 2000.  Today we review Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1954 mystery thriller, REAR WINDOW.  Enjoy!

Rear Window...Wow, what a truly suspenseful, thrilling, and just flat out terrifically entertaining motion picture. The master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, is on full form here, keeping us on our toes throughout the film, always second guessing what route the story is heading. By focusing the camera primarily on the courtyard of the apartment, we, the audiences, are always on edge, always waiting for something to happen.
