Trailer Review: ALIEN: COVENANT (Trailer #2)

The newest trailer for Ridley Scott's follow-up to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, has officially hit the web, and it is fantastic.  Coming just under a week past the release of the Alien: Covenant prologue short film, "Last Supper", this trailer gives us a deeper look into this film than we have seen as of yet.

Check it out below:

Wow.  I don't know about you, but this trailer was exactly what I wanted to see from this film.  It felt like the perfect mix of Prometheus and Alien, a bridge from one to the other.

The first half of this trailer was unequivocally inspired by Prometheus.  From the music to the color palette, it all felt like the high concept sci-fi brought forth in the first film, but then it all turns around, and that's where Alien comes into play.  The terror and dredd felt in the original Alien film is unmistakably present.  It all begins with the hatching of the infamous facehugger, the creature that starts it all.

Throughout the next minute, the entire tone of the trailer changes.  The colors darken and fade, the music grows louder and more ominous.  And then we see it.  The Xenomorph.  A savage, alien beast that will destroy anything and everything in its path, with no mercy whatsoever.  This creature is a thing of nightmares, and I am thrilled that Scott has decided to go full speed ahead, back into this world.

And that final shot...holy sh**!!!  This trailer has bumped this film up into my top 5 most anticipated for this year.  I can't wait!  Who else out there is excited?  Be sure to let us know down in the comments below.

Alien: Covenant hits theaters on May 19, 2017.
