Trailer Review: DESPICABLE ME 3 (Trailer #1)

Gru and the Minions are back for Despicable Me 3, and the first official trailer has dropped.  Check it out below!

Gru faces off against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who grows up to become obsessed with the character he played in the '80s; and gets into some sibling rivalry when he meets his long lost twin brother, Dru.

The latest adventure for Gru and co. is finally on the way.  I love these movies, even the less popular Minions.  The Despicable Me franchise is one of my favorite animated film series, and this one looks like it'll be another great, fun ride with these characters.

We are introduced to a new villain, Balthazar Bratt, who is obviously stuck in 1980s, which is fantastic. Almost the entire trailer has a great 80s feel to it, due mostly from the catchy background music, and, as I said, this new villain.  Seeing him moonwalk across the water and dance on the boat while taking out soldiers was hilarious.

Gru and Lucy are back, and their chemistry seems to be as good as ever.  One of my favorite scenes in this entire trailer is when Lucy calls them "Grucy", as in Gru and Lucy.  Gru's response made me bust out laughing and did so every time I watched it.

The trailer had all the great humor that I expect from the scenes with Gru.  The only things missing were the Minions (which we get only one quick shot of toward the end) and the girls.  Now, I'm sure that Margo, Edith, and Agnus will play just as big of a role as usual, but not seeing them definitely left a bit of a hole in this trailer.

However, with everything the trailer did give us, I am still extremely excited for this film and can't wait to see it next year.

Despicable Me 3 hits theaters on June 30, 2017.
