Trailer Review: SAUSAGE PARTY - Red Band Trailer #1

The first trailer for Seth Rogen's R-rated animated horror-comedy, Sausage Party, has been released, and it's as weird and crazy as you might expect.

Sausage Party just had a work-in-progress cut air at the SXSW Film Festival.  It features the voice talents of Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Selma Hayek.
Here’s the film’s synopsis:
The film tells the story of one sausage setting out on a quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the Fourth of July sale.

If I hadn't known about this movie beforehand, I would've been in for quite the surprise while watching this trailer.  It starts off innocent enough, and if you didn't know any better, you'd think this was the latest Disney or Dreamworks film...but you'd be wrong.
The film takes a sharp turn as the unsuspecting food enter a horror show where a potato is skinned alive right before their eyes.  They come to find out that all isn't what it seems, and that's when the classic Seth Rogen comedy kicks in.
This is a fun change of pace from all of the kid-friendly animated films that get released year after year.  It's not often we get an R-rated one, and this one looks ridiculous and hilarious.  The trailer shows exactly the type of humor I want and expect from this team, and I really like the animation style.  The film is obviously spoofing Disney and Pixar in both animation style and content (it's like an adult Toy Story with food).  Be prepared for some Deadpool-like backlash from parents, however, who will say "animated movies are supposed to be for kids", as was said about all superhero films.
I'm really looking forward to this movie, and hopefully won't be disappointed.  Let us know in the comments what you thought of the trailer and whether or not you're excited for the film.
Sausage Party hits theaters on August 12, 2016.
