WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 'Star Wars' Conquers The Holiday Weekend; Hits $1Billion In 12 Days

Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, formerly BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of December 25-27 were Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Daddy's Home, and Joy.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:

WHAT STANDS OUT?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens making almost $150 million on its second weekend is very impressive, but what's more impressive is the fact that it managed to cross the $1 billion mark so fast.  Also, seeing The Hateful Eight grab the #10 spot with $4.6 million and only being played in 100 theaters is a definite sign that this film is on its way to making some serious bank.

THE TOP 3:

1. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Taking the record for the largest second weekend of all-time, Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought in another $149.2 million, dropping a mere 39.8%, for a domestic total of $540.1 million and an impressive 13-day, worldwide total of $1.16 billion, putting it in the 10th spot at the worldwide box office.  If it continues at this pace, it'll definitely have a shot at dethroning the worldwide box office record holder, Avatar.

2. DADDY'S HOME

Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell's latest team-up, Daddy's Home, managed an impressive opening weekend on the coat tails of Star Wars, bringing in $38.7 million.  Combined with its foreign grosses, it brought in a worldwide total of $43.1 million.

3. JOY

The newest collaboration between David O'Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper had a tougher time standing up to the competition, bringing in only $17 million domestically and $19 million worldwide on a $60 million production budget.  Needless to say, the force was NOT strong with this one.

#1 - Star Wars: The Force Awakens - $149,202,860
