In the slums of the future, virtual reality junkies satisfy their violent impulses in online entertainment. One player soon discovers that the line between the games and reality is closer than he could have ever imagined.
This brilliant sci-fi short film caught me off guard when I first watched it. I wasn't entirely sure what I was getting my self into, with the documentary-style interviews, but once they went into the VR world and showed us the horrible truth of it all, my mind was blown. It exposes two frightening ideas: the consequences of immersive video game addiction, and the even more frightening notion that the game you spend so much time playing is much more than just a game.
Uncanny Valley definitely stays with you after watching, and like all great sci-fi stories, it gives us a glimpse of a future we all should be wary of.
Written and directed by Argentine filmmaker Federico Heller (writer and director of the 2012 animated short film, Shave It), the short is already slated to be developed into a feature film, and if it's anything like this ahort film, I will absolutely be heading to the theaters to see it.
This looks really good, and if it gets turned into a feature, yeah I would watch it. It kind of looks like District 9 meets Edge of Tomorrow with Wreck it Ralph and Heaven Knows What references thrown in
