12 Days of Movie Reviews: Lethal Weapon

Welcome to Day 2 of the "12 Days of Movie Reviews".

Today we take a look at the most quintessential buddy-cop film of the last 35 years and a classic Christmas-themed film...LETHAL WEAPON!

What happens when you mix two outcast police officers, porn, cocaine, and Christmas?  You get one of the greatest 80's action flicks ever to be made.  We get to see Mel Gibson in his prime, before he went crazy (just don't tell Riggs I called him crazy), and the always wonderful, Danny Glover.  These two worked so well off of one other.

This film paved the way for so many other great "buddy cop" action films, such as Beverly Hills CopBad Boys and Rush Hour.  But what makes it special to me is how relatable it is to the average person.  Dealing with issues of growing older, holiday depression, and even making new personal connections at an older age.

I'm gettin' too old for this shit!

But what makes it really special is its ability to stand the test of time.  I rewatched this film after several years of not seeing it and I loved every minute of it just as much as I remember, if not more.  This film will no doubt go down as an all-time classic.

What makes it Christmasy?

Well, it helps that it's set during Christmas-time, which you get the sense of right from the get-go, as Jingle Bell Rock plays during the opening credits.  We also see a coke deal in a tree lot, and even a Bugs Bunny Christmas cartoon playing on the TV.

If you haven't seen this film yet, then what the hell are you waiting for!?!  Go watch it now!

The Merc's Score:  9/10
