When I first heard about this, I was intrigued by the concept of a Bill Murray-led Christmas variety show. But as I watched it, it became abundantly clear that this was something completely different from what I expected. I thought this was a legitimate variety show, but it turns out to be so much more.
A Very Murray Christmas follows the very talented Bill Murray as he tries, unsuccessfully, to put on a televised Christmas variety show. He is joined by a huge ensemble cast, some of whom play themselves, like Paul Schaffer, Chris Rock, Miley Cyrus, and George Clooney, while others play characters, like Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, and Jason Schwartzman.
The special is loaded with classic Christmas songs sang by the cast, including "Jingle Bells", "O Tannenbaum", and "Silent Night". However, my favorite song of the whole show came during the third act, and was performed by Bill Murray and George Clooney..."Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin'".
What Makes It Chrismasy?
Well, this one is pretty self explanatory, given it's a Christmas special, and the word Christmas is in the title. It's also set during Christmas Eve night/Early Christmas morning and includes a large number of Christmas songs.
This will definitely become a Christmas tradition for me. I really enjoyed all of the celebrity appearances and the twist on classic songs made it very enjoyable. Check it out on Netflix when you get a chance.
