Trash Bin: ROCK OF AGES

Welcome to another installment of the TRASH BIN, where we watch the worst movies Hollywood has to offer, according to the critics, and give you our thoughts, good or bad. This week's pick is the electrically charged 80's themed musical, ROCK OF AGES from 2012. It was adapted from the Broadway musical of the same name.

It's about a small town girl named Sherry and a city boy named Drew who come to Hollywood to pursue their dreams. However, there are many pitfalls along the way. Audiences are able to relate to this film for the simple fact that we all have dreams and aspirations.

I love this movie because of its positive message and most of all THE MUSIC. My love of anything 80's is well-known to my friends and family. Also, Tom Cruise was so sexy in this movie. I've loved him since Risky Business and was pleasantly surprised that he was able to carry a tune.

The film was cast well, especially the parts of Stacee Jax and Sherry. Sherry is played by Julianne Hough, who is a well-known singer and dancer. Stacee Jax is played by Tom Cruise and he gave a great portrayal of an oversexed and egotistical rock star. Drew, the film's male protagonist, was played by Diego Boneta, who was actually a Latin pop singer before being cast in Rock Of Ages.

One of my favorite scenes is when Stacee Jax is being interviewed by a reporter from Rolling Stone, Constance Sack, played by Malin Akerman. They have great chemistry and are fun to watch onscreen. Constance is easily seduced by Stacee Jax, but what woman wouldn't be?

This movie had some great actors and was definitely entertaining to watch. However, the music is what I love most about this film. It features songs from Def Leppard, Journey, Poison, Foreigner, Bon Jovi and many others, and all the actors even sang their own parts.

Despite, the great songs and Tom Cruise, Rock Of Ages did not do well at the box office. It even received mixed reviews from the critics, with a 41% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Peters Travers of Rolling Stone called the script terrible and said the best thing about the film was Tom Cruise's performance as Stacee Jax.  Though, Roger Ebert did give it a 3 out of 4 star rating, which made me happy to see.

Rock Of Ages may not have received much love from the critics, but I loved it. If you are a fan of 80's music, then this film is a must see. Don't Stop Believing fellow film lovers.
