Actor Profile: DAKOTA JOHNSON

Here at Merc with a Movie Blog, we've focused a great deal on directors and their careers. However, I've decided to switch it up and do an acting profile of Dakota Johnson, who is well-known for her role as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker.

Johnson has done other films, but Fifty Shades of Grey is what put her on the map as an actress. Her film debut was Crazy in Alabama along side her mother, Melanie Griffith, back in 1999. She can also be seen in films like The Social Network, 21 Jump Street, and How to be Single.

Dakota comes from a prominent show biz family. Her grandmother was Tippi Hedren, who starred in Hitchcock's The Birds and Marnie. Dakota's parents are also well-know in Hollywood. Her father, Don Johnson, was in the popular '80s series, Miami Vice. Her mother, Melanie Griffith, has been in some well-known films such as Working Girl, Crazy in Alabama, Something Wild, Milk Money and many others.

I knew who Dakota was before Fifty Shades of Grey because her mother is one of my favorite actors. Working Girl is still one of my favorite movies to this day and I wanted my hair to be red like Melanie Griffith's because of it. Also, Dakota pays tribute to her mom's role in the film by quoting a direct line from it in Fifty Shades Darker.

Both actresses have a gentle quality to their acting that I connect to. The sound of both women's voices puts me at ease. I see similarities in their acting styles and think both are very talented. It is hard for me to take my eyes off them when they're on screen.

Johnson has some upcoming projects that have nothing to do with zip ties. She will star as a young American ballerina in Suspiria, which is supposed to be released later this year. She is also working on the third film in the Fifty Shades series, Fifty Shades Freed, and the 2018 film Sound of Metal, where she plays a singer in a band whose drummer begins to lose his hearing and he has to come to grips with a future that will be filled with silence.
