Trash Bin: BECAUSE I SAID SO

Welcome to another installment of the TRASH BIN, where we watch the worst movies Hollywood has to offer, according to the critics, and give you out thoughts, good or bad. This week's pick is the adorable 2007 romantic comedy...BECAUSE I SAID SO.

I was initially drawn to this film because of the caliber of the cast. Diane Keaton needs no introduction, Lauren Graham was phenomenal in Gilmore Girls, and Piper Perabo was great in Coyote Ugly and Covert Affairs. And last, but not least, is Mandy Moore who film fans may know from A Walk to Remember, among other things, including the hit tv series, This Is Us.

The plot for this film is simple and timeless, a meddlesome yet loving mother (Keaton) interferes in her daughter's (Moore) love life. It's a tale that we've seen over and over as mothers have always wanted their daughters to be happy.

One of my favorite scenes is when Milly, played by Moore, overhears a conversation between her boyfriend's family about how her mother, Daphne, set them up online. However, Milly is also seeing another guy. So, it gets a bit complicated to say the least.

I was surprised that this film didn't get more love from the critics. It had a great theme which is the mother-daughter relationship. This film received only a 4% on Rotten Tomatoes. Diane Keaton even got nominated for a Golden Raspberry for worst actress. However, I felt her performance was heartfelt and the love she had for her daughters was obvious.

This film definitely had its clichés, however, I disagree with William Booth of the Washington Post who called it the worst movie of 2007. Because I Said So has many redeeming qualities such as Daphne finding love and Milly going for what she wants. From watching this film, I learned that no mother-daughter relationship is without its pitfalls. And the chemistry between Moore and Keaton is great. If you are looking for a sweet movie to watch with mom, then this may just be the one.

CRITICS' SCORES:
