Trash Bin: NORM OF THE NORTH

Welcome to another installment of the TRASH BIN, where we watch the worst movies Hollywood has to offer, according to the critics, and give you our thoughts, good or bad. This week's pick is the 2016 animated film...NORM OF THE NORTH.

A polar bear of many words, Norm's greatest gripe is simple: there is no room for tourists in the Arctic. But when a maniacal developer threatens to build luxury condos in his own backyard, Norm does what all normal polar bears would do he heads to New York City to stop it. With a cast of ragtag lemmings at his side, Norm takes on the big apple, big business and a big identity crisis to save the day.

What that synopsis leaves out is, one of Norm's main characteristics, is that he loves to twerk, listen to his freaking iPod, and to be inconsistent all the freaking time! Oh and I know what some people would think, some people would think "Oh don't be so harsh, it's just a kids movie", and I would, and do, totally reject that logic. In 2016, the year Norm Of The North was released, some of the best films were animated films. Zootopia, Moana, Kubo And The Two Strings, Finding Dory and so on. Those films were layered, thoughtful, beautiful movies that could be enjoyed by all ages. Norm Of The North, on the other hand, is an insult to film, and especially to the art of animation.

Speaking of the art of animation, the animation here is bad. Just bad. It looks like it was made in 2005 for the Nickelodeon channel (that is not a slight on Nickelodeon). It looks unfinished and awkward. And you know what else is awkward, the plot, which is horrible. The plot is a pretty decent idea on paper, but what the people behind Norm Of The North delivered is a jumbled mess with forced twists and one dimensional, terrible characters.

And you know what's funny, there is a moment in Norm Of The North, where Norm says "Where would a creepy one dimensional villain hide things?", and I thought to myself "Sh**...Are they being self aware?", "do the filmmakers know what they have made is terrible?" I hope so, for their sake

Rob Schneider...Are you not embarrassed by your recent body of work? I say recent, what I mean is the past, oh I don't know, 15+ years. You are good in bit parts, Home Alone 2 for example, which isn't that good of a movie... It sure is better than this.

On a positive note, if there are any, the score is pretty good, albeit generic, but it is one of the only "good" parts of the film. Also, the part when Norm mentions whether his need to save his own home, has ruined Olympia's, was a nice touch...Except he never really is shown to be conflicted about it, therefore, it doesn't really matter. Good point retracted I guess...

So on a final note, Norm Of The North is an insult to animation, it is made for the lowest common denominator, and it is EASILY, the worst film to come out of 2016.
