WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 'Doctor Strange' And 'Trolls' Dominate The Box Office

Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of November 4-6 were Doctor Strange, Trolls, and Hacksaw Ridge.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:

WHAT STANDS OUT?

All three wide released films that opened this week managed to take the Top 3 spots.  Doctor Strange crushed it in its opening weekend, outdoing most people's expectations by bringing in over $85 million.  Trolls also did exceptionally well with over $45 million.  But it looks like Hacksaw Ridge has a bit of work to do.

THE TOP 3:

1. DOCTOR STRANGE

The latest outing from Marvel Studios, Doctor Strange, hit theaters this week, soaring past the expectations of most.  The film managed to wrangle up $85.1 million, which is very impressive for such a lesser known character.  It also raked in $240.7 million in foreign grosses for an impressive worldwide total of $325.8 million nearly doubling its $165 million production budget.

2. TROLLS

The next film up, Dreamworks' Trolls, also opened up this weekend, bringing in an impressive total of $46.6 million.  With a solid foreign gross of $104.8 million, Trolls managed a worldwide total of $151.4 million on a $125 million.

3. HACKSAW RIDGE

The last film to open up this week was Mel Gibson's latest directorial effort, Hacksaw Ridge.  The film, which stars Andrew Garfield, managed an opening weekend total of $15.2 million total.  Coming with a $40 million production budget, it looks like Hacksaw Ridge may have a tough time reaching a profit.
