WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 'Suicide Squad' Dominates Third Straight Week, While 'Ben-Hur' Struggles To Attract An Audience

Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of August 19-21 were Suicide Squad, Sausage Party, and War Dogs.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:

WHAT STANDS OUT?

I was a bit surprise to see Suicide Squad hold onto the top spot this week, but that just shows that people are still out there enjoying this film no matter what the critics say.  Also, out of the three new releases this week, one of them failed to break the Top 5, and that film was Ben-Hur.  This film had an uphill battle from the get go, as most remakes do, especially when they are remakes of a classic or beloved film.  Also, the poor reviews don't help it much, as it has a score of only 29% on Rotten Tomatoes currently.

THE TOP 3:

1. SUICIDE SQUAD

DC's latest film, Suicide Squad, dominated the box office yet again this week, dropping just 52.1% to bring in another $20.9 million.  This gives it a domestic total of $262.4 million and an impressive worldwide total of $575.4 million on a $175 million production budget.

2. SAUSAGE PARTY

The brand new R-rated animated comedy from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Sausage Party, managed to hold on to the #2 spot again this week, bringing in a solid $15.5 million.  This puts its domestic total at $65.5 million and its worldwide total at $71.5 million on a mere $19 million production budget.

3. WAR DOGS

The new Jonah Hill/Miles Teller film, War Dogs, hit theaters this weekend and was able to snag a spot in the Top 3.  The film brought in a domestic total of $14.7 million and scraped up a small foreign gross of $6.5 million for a worldwide total of $21.2 million on a modest $40 million production budget.

TOP 10 RUNDOWN:

#1 - Suicide Squad - $20,855,401
