SDCC 2016: Marvel/Netflix Unleashes On First Day Of Comic-Con

Marvel and Netflix started off this year's San Diego Comic-Con with quite a bang, giving some major announcements, updates and revealing several images and teasers for their upcoming shows including Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the team-up series, The Defenders.

They started off their panel with this great sizzle reel, showing footage from both seasons of Daredevil and the first season of Jessica Jones, with pieces of Luke Cage mixed in.  Check it out:

Marvel fans were definitely excited to see this clip, as SDCC attendees flocked to social media, claiming the entire hall was chanting the heroes' names after it aired.  It even surprised some fans by ending with a great shot of Jon Bernthal's Punisher, using the line, "One in the chamber. Bang, bang", which was clearly included as a sort of confirmation of the solo series that's being developed for the character, of which little is currently known.  But that was just the beginning.

LUKE CAGE

Fans have been clamoring for footage of the upcoming Luke Cage series ever since it was announced.  As you may remember, Luke Cage made his MCU debut in season one of Jessica Jones, and was a big hit.  So, needless to say, fans were ecstatic to see the very first trailer for the new series.  Check it out:

Luke Cage will focus on the character's life in Harlem and his fugitive status as the hero persistently attempts to evade his past. Wanting to live in anonymity, Luke finds himself thrust into his city's underbelly as the hero-for-hire is forced to confront his dangerous past to save those around him.  Luke Cage is set to debut on Netflix on September 30, 2016.

IRON FIST

Next we got our very first look at the upcoming series Iron Fist.  In Marvel's Iron Fist, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns to NYC after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy.  He fights  against the criminal element corrupting his world around him with his incredible Kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.  Marvel’s Iron Fist will premiere on Netflix in 2017.  Check out the teaser below:

THE DEFENDERS

The next teaser shown during the jam-packed Marvel/Netflix panel was for The Defenders.  It was originally announced that Marvel and Netflix would team up to bring fans series for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, all of which have began or are about to begin production.  It was also announced that these shows would combine for a miniseries titled The Defenders, which would see the four heroes team up.  Well, at fans at SDCC, finally got confirmation of this as a teaser for this series was shown, including snipets of all four heroes.  Check it out:

Little is actually known about the series other than Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will all be appearing.  As of now, The Defenders is set to begin shooting once Iron Fist gets underway.  The Defenders will hit Netflix sometimes later in 2017, following the release of Iron Fist.

DAREDEVIL - SEASON 3

Fans also finally got confirmation that Daredevil season 3 is happening, though it seems we'll have to wait a bit before we get to see it.  The third season of Marvel and Netflix's first series is slated to premiere sometime after the much awaited team up series, The Defenders (which we'll talk more about later).  Jessica Jones season 2, which has already been confirmed, will most likely premiere after Daredevil season 3, which will probably be sometime in 2018.  Check out the announcement teaser below:

That's it for the Marvel/Netflix coverage from SDCC 2016.  Stay tuned for more Comic-Con news as it develops.
