Family Movie Night: THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE

Welcome to a new installment of FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT, where we give our recommendation on a family-friendly movie to enjoy.  This week we review the wonderfully fun, animated film...THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE.

"Today, with your support and the support of millions of people throughout this country, we begin a political revolution to transform our country economically, politically, socially and environmentally."
- Angry Birdie Sanders, a true progressive.

The Angry Birds Movie, in the eyes of plebeian cinephiles and casual viewers, may look like a film made for cash with enough adult humor and references to the mobile app game it'll make your head spin, but I want to tell you you're wrong. Angry Birds was the key to my liberation (and can be yours too!)

The hype for this movie was incredible. Watching my friend grow the meme, embracing the birds as his own. Him praying to the poster of our overlords. Finding the film novelization at the low cost of $25. Organizing a 15+ people screening with other film students as we mutually cheered, laughed, danced and cried to what transpired on the screen. To say my nipples were hard would be putting it softly (Pardon my language lol). Angry Birds is not a film to go into cynical or glum… It's a two way experience. The energy you put in -- whether you're with a cult mob of friends, embracing it solo, or enjoying it with the family -- the more it gives you. "Angry Birds angers people that anger themselves” I declare. You must be willing to hand yourself over to the supreme leaders to fully immerse yourself in its power. I 100% recommend a group screening, during a matinee, where your bodies are free to become powerful. It truly enhances the experience.

It's filled from start to finish with purely iconic cinema moments. Piggies playing Blake Shelton as they rock assless chaps. A mighty eagle beyond all glory peeing into the pool of knowledge. Mothers leaving buildings labeled “Birds and Bees Fertility”, sure to make the right wing cringe in their existence. Sporting a mosh worthy soundtrack you could swear XXL was brought to animation before your eyes. These moments all mesh into a conglomerate display of cultural communion as you yourself draw to the screen to the point you want to fly, baby, fly.

Once it wins you over with your Bird craving envy, it brings you into their strong social issues. Colonialism exists. It's tearing families apart, and it makes the right case why immigration on the Piggies is necessary until we figure out what the hell is going on. In cinema we need toughness. We need strength. We need to build a slingshot, it's gonna be great, and we're gonna get our eggs again. Birdie or Bust, The Angry Birds Movie shows integration is a MYTH. Societies can NEVER coexist without deception coming between us, and we need to divide the good from the bad. At least temporarily. For the good of our little baby chicks. It's a very dark children's movie, but holy gosh is it a brilliant meme.

The Angry Birds Movie is the political revolution we OH so deserve. Embrace it. It will surely love you back. (In its own way).

Bailey's Score: 10/10
(but I really want to give it an 11/10)
