Welcome back to another installment of SHORT FILM SPOTLIGHT. This week, we take a look at one of the best short films I have ever seen...THE END.
In this supernatural love story, 17-year-old Brendon McKellar is instantly shown the end of his relationship with any new person he meets -- whether he wants to see it or not. Unable to change the fates that his strange ability reveals, Brendon's only options are to either succumb to the will of the universe and face inevitable heartbreak, or simply avoid each new path completely.
When I first watched this film, I was blown away by how good it was. This is one of the best produced, best acted short films I have ever watched, and I've watched a lot of short films. Director Dom Fera did an outstanding job in every aspect, from the story and dialogue, to the editing and music. Even the run-time was perfect. As I said before, I was simply blown away.
Fera not only wrote and directed the film, but also starred in it as the main character, Brendon McKellar. He and co-star Cara Ganski, who played the quick-witted Jennifer Jones, worked off one another beautifully. Their conversations felt real, their reactions felt real. I was astonished by the level of quality their performances had, something many big budget Hollywood blockbuster films can't even get right.
