WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 'Zootopia' Reigns For A Second Weekend; '10 Cloverfield Lane' Has Successful Opening

Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of March 11-13 were Zootopia, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and Deadpool.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:

WHAT STANDS OUT?

Seeing Zootopia clearly dominate yet again while only one of the four new releases even made the Top 5 was a pretty big shock.  I was glad to see 10 Cloverfield Lane have the success it did, almost doubling its production budget in its opening weekend.

The other surprise was that the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy, The Brothers Grimsby, tanked, making only $3.2 million domestically on a $35 million production budget.

THE TOP 3:

1. ZOOTOPIA

Disney Animation's newest film, Zootopia, dominated the box office yet again, dropping only 31.6% to bring in another $51.3 million.  This puts its domestic total at $144 million and its worldwide total at an impressive $438.9 million, and with no other animated films coming out for over a month, Zootopia is sure to hit some high numbers by the end of it's run.

2. 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE

The second film in the Cloverfield franchise finally hit theaters this weekend with a very successful opening of $24.7 million.  Combined with the small amount of foreign grosses, 10 Cloverfield Lane managed to bring in a worldwide total of $26.2 million on a $15 million production budget.

3. DEADPOOL

Fox's newest hit comic book film, Deadpool, managed to remain in the #3 spot, bringing in another $10.9 million in its fifth week in theaters.  This puts its domestic total at $328.2 million and its worldwide total at $708.2 million, inching ever closer to beating The Matrix Reloaded ($742.1 million) to become the highest grossing R-rated film of all time.

TOP 10 RUNDOWN:

#1 - Zootopia - $51,339,887

#2 - 10 Cloverfield Lane - $24,702,752

#3 - Deadpool - $10,942,304
