On this week's installment of What's On Netflix?, we take a look at the second film in Simon Edgar Wright's Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy...HOT FUZZ.
Of the three films in this series, which also include Shaun of the Dead and The World's End, this was the one I hadn't seen yet. So, when I came across it on Netflix, I decided it was time I finally gave it a watch. And I have to say, I really enjoyed it.
Director Edgar Wright brings his unique style of action and humor to this film, teaming once again with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Pegg and Frost are a brilliant team and work so well off one another. They perfectly balance each other's performances in everything they do.
Hot Fuzz follows super cop Nicholas Angel of the Meteopolitan Police Service. After making his colleagues look bad by being too good at his job, Angel is transferred to the quiet village of Sandford, Gloucestershire. However, after a series of mysterious "accidents" occur, it becomes clear that this quiet village isn't so quiet, and something villainous is taking place.
When I stared this film, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew it was about cops, but other than that, I had no idea what would happen. I always thought a buddy-cop comedy was a bit of weak choice for Wright's follow-up to Shaun of the Dead, and it just didn't seem to fit in with that and The World's End. But after watching it, I finally understand.
The film started off a little slow at first, and the humor seemed a bit dry. But once it got into the meat of the story, it really began to shine. Of the three films in this series, it is my least favorite, however, it is still a very enjoyable film, and if you enjoy Edgar Wright's style, I recommend checking it out.
The Merc's Score: 6.5/10
