Box Office Breakdown - 7/3-7/5 (Independence Day Weekend)

Welcome to BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  This year's Independence Day weekend was somewhat lackluster, bringing in less than $90 million combined for the top 3 films.

The TOP 3 films for the weekend of July 3-5 were Jurassic WorldInside Out, and Terminator: Genisys.

Let's take a look at how the Top 3 did this weekend...

1. INSIDE OUT

The newest project by Disney's dominant animation studio, Pixar, Inside Out, finally takes the top spot in its third weekend, bringing in $29.8 million, and dropping only 43.1% from last weekend.  This puts the domestic total for Inside Out up to $245.9 million and its worldwide total up to $363.2 million.

2. JURASSIC WORLD

The king has finally been dethroned.  Claiming the #2 spot at the box office in its fourth week, Jurassic World brought in $29.2 million domestically, dropping only 46.4% from last weekend.  This puts its domestic total up to $556.5 million and its worldwide total up to $1.38 billion, jumping up another 2 spots making it the 6th highest grossing film of all time, beating out Frozen and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2.  And being less than $100,000 behind the #5 movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron, it'll  take that spot by the end of the day.  And will most likely take the #3 all-time spot by the end of its run.

Check out my review of the film HERE.

3. TERMINATOR: GENISYS

The latest installment of the Terminator franchise, Terminator: Genisys, hit theaters this week, taking the #3 spot with $27 million for the 3-day weekend and $42.5 million for the 5-day weekend.  Combined with the foreign market, that brings its worldwide total up to $128 million, which is a decent opening weekend for what may become the beginning of a new series.

Here's a quick rundown of the top 10 films this weekend:

#1 - Inside Out - $29,771,224

#2 - Jurassic World - $29,242,025
