TOY STORY 4 Poster & Teaser Trailer Officially Released

It has been nearly a decade since Woody, Buzz, and the gang graced the big screen with a feature film, but next June we will finally get to see the next chapter of this epic saga.

And to get us hyped for the upcoming film, Pixar has released the first official teaser poster and teaser trailer.  Just enough to leave us wanting more.  The teaser also includes an updated synopsis that reveals the film takes the beloved Toy Story characters on a brand-new "road trip adventure".

Check out the poster below:

A lot has changed since Toy Story 4 was announced back in 2014. The film was originally going to be directed by John Lasseter, written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones (Celeste and Jesse Forever), and follow Woody and Buzz on an adventure to find Bo Peep. Since then, however, Lasseter, McCormack, and Jones have all left the project and Josh Cooley (a cowriter on Inside Out) is now directing solo from a script by Stephany Folsom (an uncredited writer on Thor: Ragnarok). It seems the film's core storyline has changed too, based on the new synopsis.

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.

You can check out the teaser trailer below:

"Forky" is voiced by Tony Hale (of Arrested Development and Veep fame) and is officially described as being "an actual spork-turned-craft project who insists he isn’t a toy". The Toy Story 4 teaser likewise shows "Forky" feeling very out of place alongside the classic Toy Story gang and quite literally disrupting their harmonious flow, in accordance.

Road trip adventures and toys having existential crises were both key elements of the original Toy Story movie trilogy, so it's only fitting that Toy Story 4 includes them too. The story with "Forky" is still a far cry from the "Woody and Buzz rescue Bo Peep" plot that was originally announced, but that's to be expected. Bo Peep voice actor Annie Potts confirmed that she's still part of the film earlier this year, but also revealed that "three-quarters" of the original Toy Story 4 screenplay was rewritten, following Lasseter's departure. It's not clear yet how the Bo Peep character fits into the movie's revised narrative, but it sounds like Toy Story 4 will nevertheless find a way to bring Bo back into the picture (following her somewhat unceremonious exit between the events of Toy Story 2 and 3).

As for Toy Story 4 itself: the film has a high bar to clear, considering that Toy Story 3 is considered by many Pixar fans to be the perfect ending to Woody and Co.'s journey on the big screen. Still, if Toy Story cast members like Tim Allen are to be believed, then Toy Story 4 will be as funny and emotional as everyone is hoping.

Toy Story 4 is slated to hit theaters on June 21, 2019.
