Trailer Review: 47 METERS DOWN (Trailer #2)

There are many people like myself who wouldn’t go into the ocean looking for sharks, because yes, we saw Jaws! Still, we have a fascination with them and movies about them.  Even at that, you would think we would shy away from movies where Great White sharks are putting people in peril.  I can’t speak for anyone else, but I find myself drawn to them like a magnet. I think it’s just a way to remind myself that these are fearsome creatures to be respected. Or, maybe I just like a good scare like the one 47 Meters Down promises to deliver.

The second trailer for 47 Meters Down gives a good indication that this ‘people in peril from a Great White shark’ movie is going to deliver those scares. 47 Meters Down, which opens nationwide on June 16th, is promoted as a terrifying tale of survival set in the domain of the ocean's fiercest creatures.  The trailer contains enough teasing of a shark-infested thrill ride to make me want to see the movie.

The premise of 47 Meters Down is that Lisa, played by Mandy Moore, decides she needs a little adventure in her life after dealing with a bad break up. While on vacation in Mexico with her sister Kate, played by Clair Holt, she is persuaded to go cage diving to see Great Whites up close.  Then the unthinkable happens and the sisters are trapped in a cage at the bottom of a seabed too deep to radio for help from the boat far above them.

The 2nd trailer for 47 Meters Down has some stunning visual work and is cut in such a way that more than amps up the single-minded intent of the sharks. It does it in a way that really conveys the claustrophobic feel and the desperation for survival these two women have.  It certainly gives you an adrenaline rush.

47 Meters Down looks like it has what it takes to be an ‘edge of your seat’ action movie.  Mandy Moore and Claire Holt seemed to project a good sense of the terrible situation their characters are in. Hopefully it will live up to the excitement generated in this trailer and have a strong storyline.
