Trailer Review: SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (Trailer #2)

The next trailer for the Marvel/Sony collaboration, Spider-Man: Homecoming, has just hit the web (no pun intended) and The Merc is here to give you his take.  Check out the trailer and review below:

I really liked this trailer, overall.  It gave some nice insight into the mind and motivations of this new Peter Parker.  We see him struggle with trying to be like Tony Stark, but not living up to his own (or Tony's) high expectations.  And we finally see why he's wearing the homemade suit, as Tony takes back the suit he gave him, forcing Peter to discover who he really is all on his own.

The first 45-seconds or so of this trailer felt like it was trying to play up more of the John Hughes tone we've seen before, with Peter in school and hanging out with his friend, but the music was far too ominous and didn't quite fit. That is, until Michael Keaton shows up, then it works perfectly.

Keaton as The Vulture was a stroke of genius.  He brings a gravitas to this character that prevents it from coming off cheesy, and that's exactly what this film needs.  And he looks absolutely phenomenal.

This film is about a kid who puts himself in situations that are beyond him.  He is looking for a path in life, and I think this encounter with The Vulture will really open his eyes to what's out there and what dangers are included in being an Avenger, which he so desperately wants.

This was a nice second trailer, and has definitely upped my enthusiasm for the film.  Oh, and one more thing...SPIDER-BOTS!  I mean, seriously, that was pretty awesome to see.  And does this mean we'll see their creator, Dr. Otto Octavius, aka Doc Ock, or will it just be another Tony Stark invention?  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
