Movie Review: FIFTY SHADES DARKER

Hello, film lovers!! I'm sure most of you are getting ready for Valentine's Day, which is just around the corner. Well, I'm reviewing a movie that many of you may be taking your wonderful significant other to go see. It's a little movie called Fifty Shades Darker. I'm sure you've heard of it. It's directed by James Foley and boasts a wonderful cast of characters.

At the end of Fifty Shades of Grey, audiences were left with a cliffhanger. **SPOILERS** Ana, played by the adorable Dakota Johnson, got into an elevator and left Christian, played by Jamie Dornan, just standing there. The burning question was "would that get back together?", and the answer is yes.

I loved everything about this movie. The onscreen chemistry between Ana and Christian was fiery and sensual. They looked fantastic together. On-screen chemistry between actors is an important element of any film and Fifty Shades Darker definitely has that.

There's been a great deal of buzz about this movie and I know some of my friends said that they didn't agree with the casting of Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Ana and Christian. However, I thought the film was well-cast and was excited to learn that Kim Basinger would be a part of this new film. She plays Elena Lincoln, an older woman from Christian's past. Let's just say things get heated between her and Ana rather quickly.

One of my favorite scenes occurs at Christian's birthday party. Elena comes up to Ana and says that she is not good for him, and that she is only after his money. Ana throws a glass of wine in her face and Elena gets kicked out of the party. I would've thrown a glass of wine in her face as well...

Another great scene takes place at Jose's gallery showing. All the pictures are of Ana and she learns that one man bought all of them, and that man, of course, is Christian. This eventually leads to them rekindling their relationship. When we see the look on Christian's face as he speaks to Ana, it warms my heart because I see the love he feels for her with just one look.

Ana and Christian's relationship is far from perfect and that is why I'm able to care about what happens to it. Christian has an enormously painful past and Ana tries to get him to open up. There is a great deal of love between these two. But, they have some obstacles to overcome, just like any other couple. Their two main obstacles they have to overcome are Ana's bitter ex-boss and the women from Christian's past. Will they make it? Well, that remains to be seen.

When people think of the Fifty Shades franchise, the sex scenes are usually the first thing to come to mind. Yes, the sex scenes are an important element of the movie and part of its appeal. However, the first thing that comes to my mind about these movies is not the sex scenes; it's the relationship between two imperfect people who are very much in love.

Fifty Shades Darker is a great date movie because of the sexual chemistry between the two main actors, its great love story, and excellent casting. Remember, every fairytale has a dark side.

Lisa's Score: 9.5/10
