Trailer Review: WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

Today the trailer for the latest installment of the reboot of the Planet of the Apes series dropped. And boy does it show some exciting footage. With several riveting acting sequences shown, along with a few intense emotional moments, War for the Planet of the Apes looks like it will be nothing short of entertaining!  Check out the trailer below.

The plot for what I like to refer to as "The War", seems eerily similar to the previous film. The Apes are attempting to create their own city in the mountains. However, the humans that are still standing refuse to sit around and let the Apes take over. Led by a man simply referred to as The Colonel, played by Woody Harrelson, the humans are ready to strike and take back this land from the Apes.

The first entertaining thing we see in the trailer is a group of the main apes, including Cesar, played once again by Andy Serkis, riding horses on a beach with a little girl. This raises the question of who is this little girl and what purpose does she serve to the Apes? We don't get an answer in the trailer but we do see this little girl several other times throughout. "I did not start this war. I offered you peace. I showed you mercy. But now you're here, to finish us off for good." These lines are the first ones delivered by the talented Mr. Serkis. And boy does that get us excited.

What we can kind of gather from these lines is that the humans have attacked the Apes before (as seen in the previous films) and once again the Apes have forgiven the humans. Cesar understands the violent nature of the humans, so he once again has shown mercy on them. But now from several sequences of the Apes fighting the humans, it's clear that the Apes are no longer going to play nice.

An exciting bit from the trailer from a creative standpoint is the work of Andy Serkis, and all of the motion capture on the Apes. The Apes (once again) look absolutely incredible, and the way that they move so seamlessly on screen is magnificent. Andy Serkis deserves much more attention for the work he has already done, but continues to do.

War for the Planet of the Apes arrives on July 14, 2017.
