Poster Review: KONG: SKULL ISLAND

Two brand new posters for the upcoming King Kong film, Kong: Skull Island, have been released, and I thought I'd take a minute to give my thoughts.  Check them out below:

So, this first teaser poster I really like.  It gives a perfect snapshot into the tone and style of the film.  It also gives you a perfect sense of scale for just how big King Kong will actually be in this new interpretation.  It's simplicity is the thing that makes this poster great.

The second teaser poster, on the other hand, isn't quite as good as it could have been.  The idea of the poster is great, and I love the style, and to be honest, the top half is great, but once we get to the bottom half, it loses me.  The image of what appears to be five soldiers walking across the surface of the water, all Jesus-style, just looks strange and doesn't seem to fit with the rest.  It almost seems like two different posters photoshopped together.  It's not horrible, but it's not great either.

Overall, both of these teaser posters work in different ways to convey the spirit of this film, with one doing it in a much more effective manner.

In the 1970s, a team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they are crossing into the domain of the mythical giant gorilla known as Kong.

Kong: Skull Island hits theaters on March 10, 2017.
