WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 'The Girl On The Train' Dominates The Box Office, While Other Newcomers Fail To Perform


Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of October 7-9 were The Girl On The Train, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, and Deepwater Horizon.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:


WHAT STANDS OUT?

Of the three films opening this weekend, only one managed to break the Top 5, with The Girl On The Train taking #1.  The other films, The Birth Of A Nation and Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life, came in at #6 and #7 respectively. 

On a side note, Disney saw its third billion dollar release of 2016 as Finding Dory finally crossed the $1 billion mark, becoming the 27th film ever to do so.


THE TOP 3:


1. THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN (2016)


The latest film starring the very talented Emily Blunt, The Girl On The Train, hit theaters this weekend to success, bringing in $24.5 million.  Combined with the foreign grosses, the film managed a worldwide total of $41 million on a modest $45 million production budget.


2. MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN


Tim Burton's latest film, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, went down one spot this week, dropping only 47.6% with $15.1 million.  This puts its domestic total at $51.2 million, and its worldwide total at a respectable $145.3 million on a production budget of $110 million.


3. DEEPWATER HORIZON


The new Mark Wahlberg film, Deepwater Horizon, managed to keep a spot in the top 3 for a second week in a row by bringing another $11.5 million, only 43% lower than last weekend.  This puts its domestic total at $38.3 and its worldwide total at $66.1 million on a $110 million production budget.
