Trailer Review: ANNABELLE 2 (Teaser Trailer #1)

Not much is known about the follow up to the 2014 movie, Annabelle. The Annabelle 2 page on IMDB gives a brief synopsis for the movie that indicates this may be a prequel which provides background story on how the doll has come to be possessed. Hopefully this movie will be better than the first Annabelle was.  Check out the teaser trailer below:

According to the synopsis, the story of Annabelle 2 is about a doll-maker and his wife who have suffered the tragic loss of their little girl. A few years later, they invite a nun and several orphaned young girls into their home after the orphanage closes. Not long afterward, all of them come under attack by the doll-maker’s creation, a possessed doll named Annabelle.

The newly released teaser trailer, which is only minute and fifteen seconds long, offers very little more in the way of information, but it does hold your attention with the small bit of scenes with intense build up that it provides to the viewer. It’s enough to give you the sense that the filmmaker wants the potential audience to believe this is going to be a really scary movie and that Annabelle the possessed doll is an evil force to be reckoned with. The teaser trailer for Annabelle 2 makes use of the standard cut of scenes of a house in a dark, deserted location, creepy long hallways and echoing childlike voices to lure the audience into the trap of something scary about to happen.

Even though the Annabelle 2 teaser trailer is filled with these standard scene elements, the one thing that really caught my attention and stood out over the usual special effect of things being rattled about by some evil force, is that the woman in the trailer is wearing red shoes. I noticed this because the camera seemed to linger on them a bit too long, as if they are significant to the scene or perhaps even the whole movie. Or could be just that they didn’t want to show more of a ‘key scene’ and that they want to leave the potential audience having to go see the movie to know what happens next. Guess we won’t find out until Annabelle 2 premieres on May 19th, 2017.

As far as I am concerned, the first Annabelle movie failed to be scary. So I’m still not totally convinced that Annabelle 2 will be any scarier just by this one teaser trailer alone.
