SUICIDE SQUAD PASSES CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER AT THE WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE

At the end of last weekend, Suicide Squad managed to round out its total global gross with a solid $718+ million. When compared to The Winter Soldier, this newest DC Entertainment flick pulls ahead of its competitor's gross of $714+ million.

As far as the domestic box office is concerned, Suicide Squad shut down The Winter Soldier ages ago. The super-villain film had already out-grossed the Marvel Studios project by its third week. After raking in more than $260 million domestically, Suicide Squad squashed The Winter Soldier and its total run of $259 million. Suicide Squad's domestic total stands at over $315 million and rising.

LA LA LAND WINS TIFF'S PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD

After getting rave reviews from critics and audiences alike at both the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals, Damien Chazelle’s latest film, La La Land, has just been awarded the People’s Choice prize at TIFF.

Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, the movie musical/romance between an aspiring actress and musician has won over just about everyone and this prize, on top of the favorably received trailers, could spell both a big box office as well as awards consideration come December.

La La Land hits theaters on December 2, 2016.

According to a post from the Australian publication, the Herald Sun, a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel is not only in the works over at Warner Bros., it could start filming in Australia as soon as this year with George Miller returning at the helm.  Check out what the Herald Sun had to say below:

The prequel to 'Mad Max: Fury Road' starring TOM HARDY will be filmed in and around Broken Hill…

Pre-production is gearing up on the multi-million-dollar action-packed Warner Bros franchise, with NSW’s Broken Hill Studios Miller’s first choice for shooting, which could start as soon as later this year. 'Mad Max 4' was plagued by delays when extended rain turned the desert green and the uber director had to move location to Namibia…

The script is said to focus on the backstory of Furiosa, played by Oscar winner CHARLIZE THERON.

Do you think this project will ever actually see the light of day?  Let us know your thoughts.

FIRST JUMANJI SET PHOTO RELEASED

Production has officially begun on Sony Pictures‘ upcoming Jumanji sequel and star Kevin Hart shared the first photo from the set featuring himself and his co-stars as their characters, which you can see above.

It was previously reported, when Dwayne Johnson posted the first concept art for the film, that Hart and his co-stars are playing the “avatars” of the kids actually playing the Jumanji game in the film, which seems even more likely now given their eccentric wardrobe.

Johnson and Hart and joined by Jack Black, Nick Jonas, and Karen Gillan. Bad Teacher and Sex Tape helmer Jake Kasdan will direct from a screenplay by High Fidelity and Con Air scribe Scott Rosenberg with frequent Bad Robot executive producer Jeff Pinkner serving as a consultant.

Jumanji hits theaters on July 28, 2017.

TRAILER FOR KEVIN SMITH BIOPIC, SHOOTING CLERKS, RELEASED

Scottish production company Auld Reekie Media has released the full red-band trailer for their much anticipated biopic of writer/director Kevin Smith titled Shooting Clerks. The film will focus on the production of his 1994 debut hit film Clerks as well as looking into the events that led up to and followed it.  You can check out the trailer below:

The film was selected for the Orlando Film Festival in October where it will receive it’s world premiere. There will be two further screenings November 10th & 11th in New York and New Jersey (details here). The film-makers are also reportedly in talks with Netflix.

Director Christopher Downie and Producer Brett Murray have previously worked on several Kevin Smith themed projects; most notably the short Get GREEDO! which was posted on Smith’s own Smodco Internet Television YouTube channel.

JARED LETO TO STAR AS FAMOUS ARTIST, ANDY WARHOL, IN BIOPIC

Jared Leto, Michael De Luca and Terence Winter are teaming up to tackle the life of Andy Warhol, the famed pop art artist whose blend of art and commerce made him a household name.  Leto will portray the artist in the biopic, titled Warhol, as well as produce it, along with De Luca, who previously produced The Social Network and Captain Phillips.

Leto, producing via his Paradox production shingle, and De Luca, producing through his Michael De Luca Productions banner, are not aiming for a low-budget indie with Warhol, but rather a strong mainstream project with prestige credentials.

No other details have been revealed and a release date has yet to be set.

NEW POWER RANGERS POSTERS TEASE A FIRST LOOK AT THE ZORDS

The heavily anticipated Power Rangers movie has kept a lot of the film's details under wraps, but in a new series of posters from the movie, fans are finally getting their first glimpse at the highly powerful zords (as seen below).

The first full look at the zords will be revealed at New York Comic-Con in a couple weeks. The costume designs for the characters feature several futuristic and alien elements, so it will be interesting to see the studio's take on the Ranger's zords, which, if the posters show them to scale, will be huge.

Power Rangers will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.

BILL HADER OFFICIALLY CAST AS ALPHA 5 IN NEW POWER RANGERS FILM

In another piece of Power Rangers news, Bill Hader is joining the cast of the new movie as robot Alpha 5.  The film's official Twitter account revealed the news that the Trainwreck actor and SNL stalwart would be starring as the childlike assistant, known for his signature catch-phrase,"Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi!"

Hader will join Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as Zordon, the Rangers' mentor.

Again, Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.

GHOST IN THE SHELL TEASER TRAILERS GIVE A FIRST LOOK AT THE UPCOMING FILM

Paramount Pictures released a series of short teaser trailers for their upcoming live-action adaption of Ghost in the Shell.  Each of the five videos are short, at only around 13 seconds long, but they all reveal an interesting facet of the film.  At the same time, each one is more confusing than the last.  ComicBook.com has compiled all five teasers into one trailer (which can be seen below) to make viewing easier.

Ghost In The Shell stars Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 31, 2017.

YOUNG HAN SOLO MOVIE LANDS ARRIVAL AND SELMA CINEMATOGRAPHER BRADFORD YOUNG

While we’re now just a couple of months away from the release of the first-ever Star Wars spinoff movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm is currently in the midst of readying the second spinoff, the untitled Young Han Solo movie.  21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller landed the highly coveted gig, and while it may mark the duo’s biggest challenge yet, they’ve successfully traversed the worlds of action, comedy, and animation spectacle, so one imagines they’ve got the goods to deliver one hell of a Star Wars movie.  And now the Young Han Solo project just got even more enticing, as it’s been revealed that Bradford Young has signed on to be the film’s cinematographer.

If you’re unfamiliar with Young’s name, you’ve no doubt seen his work.  He got his start with indies like Pariah and Ava DuVernay’s Middle of Nowhere before tackling a Western canvas with 2013’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, which was followed up by a banner 2014 that saw him deliver truly stunning work in DuVernay’s MLK biopic Selma and J.C. Chandor’s striking 80s-set thriller A Most Violent Year.  Most recently, when Sicario director Denis Villeneuve couldn’t get Roger Deakins for his sci-fi drama Arrival (Deakins was busy with Hail Caesar!), Villeneuve turned to Young to shoot the first contact film.  If that’s not one hell of an endorsement—being second choice to Roger Deakins—then I don’t know what is.

The Young Han Solo movie will star Alden Ehrenreich as the beloved smuggler, and has a current release date scheduled for May 25, 2018.

JAKE GYLLENHAAL & CAREY MULLIGAN SET TO STAR IN PAUL DANO'S DIRECTORIAL DEBUT, WILDLIFE

Paul Dano is set to make his directorial debut with Wildlife, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan in a period drama based on Robert Ford’s 1990 novel.  Co-written by Dano and Zoe Kazan, the film centers on a teenage boy who witnesses the decay of his parents’ marriage after their move to Montana.

"In Richard’s book I saw myself and many others," Dano said. "I have always wanted to make films and have always known I would make films about family. I couldn’t be happier to have such beautiful collaborators like Carey and Jake leading the way."

Production is set to launch in November for June Pictures and Nine Stories.

SAM NEILL CAST IN THOR: RAGNAROK

The upcoming Thor: Ragnarok has added another fan-favorite actor to its cast, as Sam Neill reveals that he filmed a small role for the film.

"I’m not really allowed to say this and I can’t tell you what it is… I did a couple of days on Thor just before I came over here," Neill tells Shortlist (via EW). "If I say anything else, Marvel’s secret agents — and they are lethal — will come and get me and probably my children, as well."

Neill’s casting reunites him with director Taika Waititi, who directed him in his previous film Hunt for the Wilderpeople, but it also reunites him with his Jurassic Park co-star Jeff Goldblum.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
