WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 'The Conjuring 2' Scares Up A Win At The Box Office, Taking The Top Spot; 'Warcraft' Crushes Internationally

Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 films for the weekend of June 10-12 were The Conjuring 2, Warcraft, and Now You See Me 2.

Let's take a look at this week's box office results:

I don't remember the last three films opened in the same weekend and all wound up in the Top 3.  It's nice to see for a change, and seeing The Conjuring 2 crush it in the #1 spot is by far the best part for me.  The other stand out this week was the insane international success of Duncan Jones's new film, Warcraft, which gobbled up over $280 million just from foreign markets.

The newest film by horror master James Wan, The Conjuring 2, hit theaters this weekend, dominating the box office with a very impressive $40.4 million, a mere $1.4 million less than its predecessor back in 2013.  Combined with a $51.5 million foreign total, this puts its worldwide total at $91.9 million on a modest $40 million production budget.

The second new film to come out this week was Duncan Jones's highly anticipated video game adaptation Warcraft.  The film didn't quite grab the attention of the North American audience, bring in only $24.2 million.  However, it made quite a splash overseas, raking in $280.5 million for a stellar worldwide total of $304.7 million on a $160 million production budget.  This definitely bodes well for the future of this franchise.

The third, and final, new wide release film this weekend was Now You See Me 2.  The film managed to bring in $22.4 million domestically, which isn't too far off of the $29.3 million the original opened with.  Combined with the $23.9 million in foreign grosses, it ended up with a worldwide total of $46.3 million on a $90 million production budget.
