Welcome to WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results. The TOP 3 films for the weekend of April 15-17 were The Jungle Book, Barbershop: The Next Cut, and The Boss.
Let's take a look at this week's box office results:
WHAT STANDS OUT?
THE TOP 3:
1. THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016)
Jon Favreau's live-action adaptation of the 1967 animated Disney classic, The Jungle Book, hit theaters this weekend and dominated the competition with a staggering $103.3 million. It managed to do very well overseas also, bringing in $189.9 million for a worldwide total of $293.2 million on a $175 million production budget.
2. BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT
Barbershop: The Next Cut is the fourth installment in the Barbershop franchise and the first in over ten years (the last being the 2005 spin-off, Beauty Shop). The Next Cut came in at a respectable $20.2 million, which is right around what the other two Barbershop films opened to, and a significant increase over the opening for Beauty Shop, and if the previous films are any indication, this one will probably come in around $75 million domestically.
3. THE BOSS
The brand new, Melissa McCarthy R-rated comedy, The Boss, managed to edge out Batman v Superman to remain in the Top 3 in its second weekend. It brought in another $10 million for a domestic total of $40.1 million and a worldwide total of $44.1 million on a $29 million production budget.
