Trailer Review: SUICIDE SQUAD - Trailer #3

The MTV Movie Awards premiered the brand new trailer for Warner Bros. and DC's upcoming comic book film, Suicide Squad, and it was fantastic.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Check out the trailer below:

The more and more I see from this film, the more and more my excitement grows.  Suicide Squad, a film that sounds like it should be dark and grim, is exactly what DC needs after the critical thrashing they received for Batman v Superman.  One of the biggest complaints from people was the lack of levity in BvS, something of which this film seems to have plenty.

The opening line about Superman was a great way to intro this trailer and link it right off the bat to DC's previous two films.  It gives the casual moviegoer a sense of connection with these films, while showing just how different it'll be.

The humor in this trailer is great, and, in my opinion, proves that all those rumors of reshoots taking place to add more humor were just that...rumors.  This film seems to have more than enough humor to satisfy the critics, from Harley's snarky remarks, Deadshot trying to push El Diablo to his limits, and Captain Boomerang hitting on Katana.

We get some great new footage of The Joker in this trailer.  Jared Leto looks like he'll be amazing in this role, completely encapsulating the essence of this very complex and mysterious character.  Along with The Joker comes the one man who will forever chase him...Batman.  That's right, Batfleck makes an appearance in this film, and we get to see a bit more of him in this trailer as he is shown riding atop Joker's shiny, pimped out car, carrying someone (Harley perhaps?) to the Batmobile, and diving off a building in all his bat glory.

Things really pick up in the second half of the trailer, as "Ballroom Blitz" begins to play.  This is where we get all the Joker and Batman footage.  It's a high octane, insane 60-seconds that really sets the tone for this film.

This trailer also gives us a closer look at the fire-wielding villain known as El Diablo.  This version of El Diablo is Chato Santana, the third incarnation.  Chato is a pyrokinetic, meaning he can create and manipulate fire.  He first debuted in 2008 and became part of The New 52 Suicide Squad.

Overall, this trailer has really gotten me excited for the film, and I have no doubt that this will redeem the DCEU in the eyes of fans and critics alike.

Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
